What do you do when the world seems hell-bent
on not having you exist? How do you fight so much hate?

You hit back with JOY.
And a little bit of GLITTER.

Dragathon: Meeting Hate with Joy follows, from conception to execution, the ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest drag show in history — 48 consecutive hours. STOP. TAKE THAT IN. We’re talking 48 hours of non-stop drag performances filled with giant wigs, fake eyelashes, sass, chaos, and beauty.

Our film is a front-row seat to the highs and lows of this massive undertaking, told through backstage interviews, personal videos, and Guinness’s official recording of the 48-hour event, all interwoven with the personal stories of those involved. And, as these stories unfold, rising to the surface are themes of love, community, and celebrating what makes us each unique.

Unfortunately, we’re living in a time when uniqueness frequently has hate spewed at it, so we need every single message of love to be amplified. For, as Martin Luther King said, “Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” And Dragathon: Meeting Hate with Joy is a forever reminder that, in 2023, a little theater in Portland, Oregon beamed out a ray of sparkly glitter love.

So be prepared to immerse yourself in the world of drag, not just as a performance but as a community. And see what is possible when a small group bands together to meet hate with the only thing that they can: joy.
